DALLAS, TX — A pilot traveling alone from Mississippi to Weatherford, Texas, touched down in a parking lot in far north Dallas late Monday night.
The pilot was forced to land after he reported he was losing fuel, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement. He was only two miles from the Addison Municipal Airport when he landed.
The Piper PA-28 aircraft struck a light pole and was damaged. The FAA said the pilot escaped the plane and put out a small fire that broke out during the landing.
Responders told KXAS they found it "remarkable" that the pilot landed without striking any cars or structures in the heavily populated area near the Dallas North Tollway and President George Bush Turnpike tollway.
